the rooms

let's talk about how this post is from may. and i haven't posted it yet. uh...fail.

really though. i have the best roommates in the world. let me brag a little bit about them.

but first...listen to this song in the background while you read this. here's to that music video we made, ladies.

heather:
  • sometimes she talks in her sleep and i enjoy it a lot
  • she makes good faces
  • she brings me sprite when i'm sick (one time i got the stomach flu and she got me a can from the laundry room before she left for class)
  • pillow talk
  • heather and i are so completely comfortable with each other that we can talk about anything and everything and it's never been weird (even though other people would think it is)
  • she makes me laugh when she says things like "obsqueakwious" (which i will never stop laughing ab
  • she's just real great and i love her

jalyn:
  •  jalyn is probably one of the most thoughtful people ever, writing notes on mirrors, bringing dinner to roommates on campus, etc
  • she says the darndest things, like "so...do you send each other christmas cards?" and "MATCHLESS TO THE POWER"
  • she sings country songs with me really loudly when we're cleaning (hey, i'll be your shot of risqué!)
  • sometimes she closes people's heads in doors, but that's ok
  • she is focused and motivated
  • SHE'S GOING ON A MISSION TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC!!

steph:
  •  steph is talented. she wouldn't tell you. but she is and it blows me away.
  • probably she and i laugh hard at really dumb things all the time, like when i made weird sound effects and when she clears her throat in the morning but i think she's trying to sing
  • we have weird dreams and like to share them with each other while we're putting on mascara
  • she understands my sense of style and i understand hers. it's nice to have someone who can help you get dressed in the mornings when it's too hard to do it yourself.
  • she ROCKS at photoshop and in my profile picture you can't even tell that i'm not with joseph gordon levitt (if you don't know what i'm talking about...look at my profile on facebook)
  • one time we saw a ufo...and no joke we thought it was going to land on her house. and i dropped to the ground. it was awesome.

karen:
  • ren...she has a cool nickname.
  • she is tall. and pretty. and she makes everyone feel comfortable in their own skin.
  • she says things like "din din turkey dinner"
  • she makes delicious desserts, like special brownies that don't contain any drugs even if they are addictive
  • she puts others before herself - like the one time i was so sad and she took me out to zupas for lunch so i could be happy again (because she knows how much i love that place)
  • she loves to make faces, which i have always appreciated
  • she is canadian, which is pretty cool
  • she shares her candy, too, and i love that, especially when it's canadian
  • she makes me laugh and smile

one time jalyn woke up with a strange tattoo, not sure how she got it, not a dollar in her pocket. and it kinda looked just like karen...mixed with zach galifinakis.
jalyn is almost doing the jumping cucumber dance. almost.
thirty-seven love.
the last time we were all together.

can't wait for this dog pile of love + allison and brooke! just a few more weeks!

l.a. baybay

two weekends ago i got to go to l.a.

it was nothing short of a miracle that i was able to go. i have never gotten an entire weekend off from the bakery in my entire time working there (last summer included), and somehow i just happened to get friday, saturday, and sunday off. that meant that my mom and i were able to road trip it down to see the fam!

walker and dad were on a backpacking trip with the l.a. guys. they climbed mt whitney, which is only the tallest mountain in the continental u.s. no big deal or anything.

we also got to see bray'd and his then-girlfriend stephanie. i say "then-girlfriend" because they are now - wait for it - engaged!! there will be another girl in the family! :) she was so cute and sweet, and i'm excited for her to be my new cousin. also...she loves the topanga mall in la, which is definitely a bonus. because we can go shopping together. saweet.

so it was a great three days of party and party and yeah! family, laughing til our stomachs hurt and our eyes cried, and just being happy happy happy.

photo time.

grandpa and i working on the house. he called me 'dolly driller.' she was like rosie the riveter, only...dolly. the driller. yup.

we made stephanie a gift basket, lucky girl.
mama and i went to beverly hills to visit bouchon and bouchon bakery. home away from home away from home?

patio

the bakery is so tiny and not real life. its basically just a store front.

not so very many pastries

entrance to the bistro

bar at the bistro

dining area. so fancy schmancy

i'm telling you it's so tiny! also they wear hats, which i found funny

and speaking of finding things funny...this was in the back of a pick up truck. strange? yes.

bought this sweet record for our apartment in provo

also bought this majestic opalescent unicorn

my mom, aunts, and i got our toes did. tradition.

and it was super hot so i got a slurpee. i hadn't had one in who knows how long?

grandma carole accidentally left subtle hints for bray'd and stephanie tee hee

we found old family photos. this is from disneyland and newport beach, 1997. i was 5 and very happy.

me and my cousin scott, who comes home from his mission in tallahassee, fl in less than 7 months!!

oh man, i'm such a charmer.

i was 2. this was at my cousin mark's baptism. so presh.

me and my daddy. i was so tiny.

so let's end with a quote from my aunt lisa.

"i'm saying this because i think it's totally true.
i think people would just kill to be a part of our family!"

and it totally is.

mah furst innnkkkk

today at work, a woman came in with a finding nemo tattoo. yeah. a finding nemo tattoo. that took up her entire upper arm. people will never cease to amaze me.

naturally this inspired a conversation with hannah about tattoos. she asked me what i would get if i were to get a tattoo.

i told her that i had no idea because honestly, i've never really thought about it.

a few hours later, this happened.

yep. that's right. i got some ink.

that would be ink as in sharpie ink.

it's a pretty sweet tat. my friend jess gave it to me. i think it really describes me and my perspective on life. it's, like, really deep and stuff. [note: that was sarcasm]

i'm ever so happy with the way it turned out. good thing it came off in the shower.

purple pants

today, dear readers, is a sad day.

yes, today is the day that i am laying my purple pajama pants to rest.

they were such the best pants.

a little over a year and a half ago, i was traveling home from provo for thanksgiving break. i needed that break soooo bad. freshman year threw me a couple of doozies and all i wanted was a huge hug from my momsie and my popsicle.

and, as luck would have it, just as my plane was moving from our gate to the runway, a blizzard hit. i was stuck at the airport for over 8 hours waiting for the snow to clear up. and there was a definite possibility that i wouldn't be able to get home at all. and i was not exactly the happiest camper.

FINALLY my plane took off the ground. and it was all i could do to not cry.

when my dad picked me up in oakland, it all came out. yay for crying in airports. there was just too much stress built up for one little girl to handle.

this story has a happy ending, though. on the way home, i realized that i had forgotten pajama pants. my dad and i pulled over at some target along the way and i picked out this pair of slightly-too-large purple pajama pants. and then i had a wonderful weekend with my family.

those pants quickly became my favorite. and here i am, a year and a half later, with them sitting on the floor, feeling sad because they are now threadbare.  this is not an exaggeration.

so i think it's time to retire them. which poses a problem, because i only brought two pairs of pajama pants home with me and now both of them shouldn't be worn (the other have holes...).

perhaps my purple pants have a few more wears.

or perhaps it's time to go shopping :)

ahh, my sweet purple pants. thank you for all of the comfort you have provided me.
i wasn't kidding when i said they were threadbare.

the best day of all the days

have i ever told you how much i LOVE the fourth of july?

for me it's equal with christmas. i can't tell you how excited i get about all of it.

seriously though, it's the best day of all the days. always the best day of all the days.

we started out at the parade with the morgans.

then we went to the morgans house and had a bbq. sebastian-ham nava prepared smoked brisket. and we had fruit salad and potato salad and baked beans and bruschetta and chips and sodas and pies and ice cream. so good.

then we went swimming and played "throw the babies" and "pass the watermelon."

then we went to the calistoga fair.

i love the fair.

and then we watched the fireworks and played with sparklers.

it was a magical day.

kai, isabel, me, and sophie at the parade. sophie was an exchange student here last year. now she's back to visit! she likes to remind us all that she is hungarian.

yeaaaaaah boyyyyyyyy
i ran into janie and alysha at the fair! love my bakery girls ♡

i sometimes take the greatest photos ever. this happens to be one of them.

kai, olivia, me, walker, isabel, and sophie at the fair

sophie's first snocone. every time i go to the fair, i get a tiger's blood snocone. tradition.

happy birthday, america. 236 years old and you still got it. :)

i did a cockamamie thing, sydney rose

two weekends ago, i came home from wherever i was to my parents sitting on the couch.

they kept giggling and finally my mom said,

"i did a cockamamie thing, sydney rose."

i asked her what she did.

she bought me a plane ticket to los angeles.

see, my family was going to los angeles to see my dad's family. walker was going on trek and they were going to visit my aunts and uncle and cousin and grandparents. and i was going to stay home because of work.

then i found out that i had two days off in a row. and my mama bought me a plane ticket.

so on wednesday i drove to la with my family and flew home on thursday night.

it was a great 24 hours with my family.

we ate food, fought flies, and learned about our family.

i got the chance to interview my grandparents about their marriage and learned about their parents, too. it was fun to listen to them talk and learn more about them.

i also scored a sa-weet sweater and a gold sparkling wallet.

i love my family.

this book changed my life on the drive to los angeles. i'm pretty sure i'm still not okay. in a good way, of course.

grandma gave me this wallet. it was my father's...from his college days. he says it was "for special occasions."

it even has a sweet coin purse inside.

i super love this sweater.
